Zelenskyy Discusses Diplomatic Efforts with U.S. Representatives to End the War

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky celebrates his 46th birthday

During a temporary stop at Chisinau airport, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a constructive discussion with U.S. presidential representatives Steven Witkoff and Jared Kushner. The meeting primarily focused on coordinating diplomatic efforts to resolve the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine. Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to the United States for their readiness to actively participate in the process in the coming weeks, which aims to invigorate negotiations and peace initiatives.

He stated, “It was a very positive conversation. I appreciate the willingness to work as actively as possible within these weeks to catalyze diplomacy for ending Russia’s war against Ukraine.”

Concurrently, Zelenskyy emphasized that while the international community’s attention is largely focused on the situation in Iran, achieving peaceful resolution in Europe remains a priority for Ukraine and its partners.

“We understand that much global attention is drawn to the developments surrounding Iran. Nevertheless, our shared objective of securing peace in Europe remains on the agenda,” the president highlighted.

Furthermore, the dialogue addressed future diplomatic measures in relation to the upcoming G7 Summit and other June events. Zelenskyy updated attendees on analytical findings from Ukraine’s partners regarding Russia’s intentions and stance. Additionally, he expressed his appreciation to the United States for engaging in discussions grounded in respect for Ukrainian national interests and for its favorable evaluation of Ukraine’s position.

“I am grateful for the recognition of the Ukrainian people’s perseverance and the positive acknowledgment of Ukraine’s stance. Thank you, America! Thank you, Moldova, for the hospitality,” Zelenskyy added.

In further context, it was noted that the Ukrainian president addressed earlier reports of a meeting with Roman Abramovich, who was purportedly acting as a messenger to deliver and receive correspondence for the Russian president. Zelenskyy invited Abramovich to visit Kyiv to convey Ukraine’s readiness for a direct meeting with Vladimir Putin. However, the Russian leader declined the summit.

On June 4, Zelenskyy publicly issued a letter to Vladimir Putin, expressing his openness to negotiations to cease hostilities. Concurrently, the Russian side continues to comment on the possibility of indirect contacts between the parties within a diplomatic framework. This information underscores the Ukraine-U.S. collaboration in preparation for the G7 Summit and further peace-making initiatives.
