The Canadian writer of Ukrainian origin, Maria Reva, received the Amazon Canada First Novel Award 2026 for her first novel, Endling.
The annual award honors the best debut Canadian novel of the year. Reva received a $60,000 cash prize presented by Amazon.ca and The Walrus.
Endling is Reva’s debut novel, published by Knopf Canada. According to the plot, the main character, biologist Eva, lives in her mobile laboratory. She is trying to breed rare snails in Ukrainian forests. However, her family wants her to settle down and have a family. But they don’t know that Eve is already dating many men to finance her work.
