Photographer Serhii Melnychenko from Mykolaiv won the PhEST International Award at the 11th Festival of Photography and Art in the Italian city of Monopoli. He was recognized for the project “Films from the Front”.
Melnychenko’s project is built as a work without authorial intervention in the shooting process. The photographer handed over disposable film cameras to servicemen and did not know what they had captured until the moment the film was developed. This approach became the basis of the entire series.

21 servicemen from different directions of the front joined the project. For some of the participants, filming became a way to capture what usually goes unnoticed.
The photos will be shown at exhibitions in Italy and Sweden. They can currently be seen in Greece.
