Ukrainian foil fencers won the team bronze medal at the European Championship for the first time in history

Ukrainian foil fencers won third place at the European Championship in Antony, France. The team bronze medal is a historic award for the Ukrainian fencing team. So far, Ukrainian women have not managed to climb higher than fifth place at the European Championships in women’s foil. This was reported by the National Committee of People with Disabilities.

The bronze medal in the team event for Ukraine was won by Olga Sopit, Dariya Myronyuk, Alina Polozyuk and Kristina Petrova. The Ukrainian quartet coached by Olga Leleyko started the tournament with a victory in the round of 16 over Moldova (45:31).

After losing in the semifinals to the world number one and current champions from Italy (22:45), the Ukrainian women fought for third place with the bronze medalist of the previous European Championships – the Spanish national team. The Ukrainian women won the bronze-medal match 37:36.
