The Ukrainian brand of Kontabas “Kontapel” has found itself in the spotlight of the world gastronomic community. An article about the ancient drink, published in the authoritative publication Wine Enthusiast, was included in the list of nominees for the James Beard Awards-2026.

This award is considered one of the most prestigious in the world of restaurant culture, often called the gastronomic analog of the Oscars.

It all started with the brand team’s desire to tell the world about Kontabas – a traditional Ukrainian drink based on blackcurrant buds, which was revived and returned to modern consumer culture. To introduce the product to foreign media, the brand representatives turned to Craig Sawers, the author of Wine Enthusiast. This tasting marked the beginning of the story that brought the Ukrainian product to international recognition.
