The Ukrainian duo Alyona Alyona & Jerry Heil successfully performed in the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024. The Ukrainian duo Alyona Alyona & Jerry Heil reached the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 following the results of the contest’s first semi-final, which ended in Malmö, Sweden, late on Tuesday evening, May 7. The Ukrainian band, which performed the electro-folk-rap song “Teresa & Maria,” received enough votes to qualify.
The contest is held under enhanced security measures. They were taken in connection with anti-Israeli protests in Sweden and other European countries caused by the Israeli army’s actions in the Gaza Strip in response to a Hamas terrorist attack. Malmö has a high proportion of migrants, mainly from Muslim countries, and they tend to stand in solidarity with the Palestinians. Several political actions are planned in the city during the contest.
The rules for forcing viewers were changed this year for Eurovision itself. Viewers from countries that did not participate in the contest were allowed to rate their favorites starting at midnight on the day of the semi-final. However, for verification, they need a credit card that is accepted in European countries.
In addition, the representatives of the so-called Big Five and the country winners of the previous contest, who automatically qualify for the Eurovision final, will perform their full performances on stage in the qualifying rounds. In the first semi-final, there were performers from the UK, Germany, and Sweden.
