The Belgian Institute of Postal Services and Telecommunications (BIPT) will become the supervisory body regulating the messenger throughout the EU.
It will monitor how Telegram reacts to the spread of illegal content in the messenger, such as calls to violence and the illegal sale of weapons and drugs.
The publication calls the messenger “online bait for the extreme right, dealers, and terrorists.”
The regulator can fine Telegram if it fails to respond to user complaints.
