Lithuanian translator Donata Rinkevičienė received the Metų vertėjo krėslo award for translating Vasyl Škliar’s novel “The Rabbit Church” into Lithuanian. This was reported by the Lithuanian media 15min.
“The Rabbit Church” tells the story of a Lithuanian partisan exiled to the Donbas, where he meets Ukrainian rebels. The Lithuanian Writers’ Union’s publishing house published the book in 2025. The jury noted Rinkevičienė’s linguistic flair and the richness of the translation. Donata Rinkevičienė has been translating from Ukrainian for six years.
The Lithuanian PEN Center and the Lithuanian Ministry of Culture have been presenting this award since 2001. The laureate receives a diploma, a cash prize, and a chair that symbolizes the translator’s solitary work. Every year, the chair has a new look — a tradition that has been supported for many years by poet and philanthropist Gintaras Blaizgis.
