U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth officially confirmed the deployment of additional Pentagon personnel to Ukraine to study the utilization of unmanned aerial systems in real combat operations. During a hearing in the U.S. Senate, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell referred to Ukraine as the “Silicon Valley of warfare” and requested Hegseth’s support for such missions to investigate Ukraine’s military expertise in drone applications.
Hegseth emphasized that this decision was personally approved and aims to master drone tactics in both offensive and defensive operations. He stressed the need to integrate lessons learned in real time to optimize defense and attack strategies in environments where drone dominance has become a strategic requirement.
Hegseth also noted the importance of applying lessons not only from Ukraine but also from other combat theaters in the speedy advancement of U.S. military technologies.
It is also worth noting that during NATO military exercises in Sweden, Ukrainian drone operators had a significant advantage in drone warfare, successfully surpassing Swedish units in a training scenario. Furthermore, the Pentagon has proposed its largest defense budget request in history, totaling $1.5 trillion, including $75 billion for the development of unmanned technologies and countermeasures.
