The level of anxiety among Ukrainians is increasing

The share of Ukrainians dissatisfied with the direction of the country's development has increased to 46%

The level of life satisfaction among Ukrainians remains at a moderate level (5.4 points on a 10-point scale). The Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) reports such data from the second wave of the pilot study of the well-being of Ukrainians during the war.

It is noted that this indicator has been gradually increasing for six months.

“The highest scores are recorded among residents of rural areas and residents of the West, while the lowest are among internally displaced persons and residents of regional centers,” KIIS emphasizes.

At the same time, Ukrainians generally rate their sense of happiness at an average level (5.6 points out of 10). According to sociologists, this indicator has remained unchanged for the past six months. The highest scores are recorded among people under 45, the lowest among people over 60.

KIIS emphasizes that the level of anxiety is increasing: almost every second Ukrainian feels it at a high level. The most anxiety is among people over 60 and residents of the East, and the least anxiety is demonstrated by young people aged 18-29.

At the same time, the sense of meaning in life – a key psychological resource that supports internal resilience and the ability to adapt to war, remains at the highest level (7.1 points out of 10) relative to all other indicators. The highest indicators are observed among people living in cities that are not regional centers and among people aged 30-44. Residents of the East and internally displaced persons tend to have a lower sense of meaning in life. However, this indicator still remains above the average.

According to KIIS, women demonstrate a higher level of sense of meaning in life and happiness. In contrast, men demonstrate an increase in the level of anxiety. These differences indicate different emotional reactions to long-term social challenges. In particular, the sense of meaning in life remains at 7.2 for women and 7 for men, while happiness is 5.7 and 5.5, respectively, and anxiety is 5.8 and 4.9.

Despite the gradual increase in life satisfaction, older people over 60 demonstrate lower levels of happiness and higher levels of anxiety compared to younger people. Young people, on the other hand, are more emotionally dynamic, experiencing both higher levels of happiness and strong fluctuations in anxiety.
