The World Wrestling Championships have come to an end in Zagreb, Croatia. The Ukrainian team achieved its best result since 2019, finishing in seventh place.
At the 2025 World Championships, Ukraine was represented by the maximum possible team of 30 wrestlers: 20 in men’s and women’s freestyle wrestling, and 10 in Greco-Roman wrestling.
At the end of the world championship, the “blue and yellows” won two medals: both in women’s freestyle wrestling. Maria Vynnyk won silver in the 59 kg weight category, and Alla Belinska won gold in the 72 kg weight category.
This is the first time since 2019 that Ukraine has finished the world championship with gold. Back then, Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion Zhan Beleniuk won in the 87 kg weight category, and the Ukrainian team ended up in sixth place in the medal count.
With two awards, Ukraine took seventh place in the medal standings. The Japanese team won the standings, winning 13 awards, 7 of which were gold.
