The NBU data state that remittances to Ukraine from around the world through official and unofficial channels decreased to $9.6 billion in 2024, down from $11.6 billion in 2023.
Almost $2.5 billion in equivalent money was transferred to Ukraine through payment systems (created by both residents and non-residents) in 2023, which is 4.6% less than in 2023.
The average amount of one such cross-border transfer to Ukraine last year was $267 (2023: $256).
Last year, the most significant amounts of funds came to Ukraine through payment systems from the United States (19.39%), Israel (16.8%), Germany (10.8%), Italy (10.21%), and the United Kingdom (9.41%).
Three payment systems led in the number of transfers to Ukraine: Western Union, 37.58% of all transfers; MoneyGram, 19.20%; and RIA, 18.33%.
The NBU notes that in 2024, Ukrainians received humanitarian aid from several international organizations through the payment system.
Traditionally, in previous years, before the full-scale invasion, about a quarter of all private remittances to Ukraine came through payment systems. In 2024, this trend continued.
