The Polish government not only provides half of all Starlink satellite communication terminals operating in Ukraine, but also plans to significantly increase their number – another 5,000 devices have already been ordered. This was reported by Puls Biznesu with reference to Polish Minister of Digitalization Krzysztof Gawkowski.
By the end of 2024, Poland has provided Ukraine with 24,400 Starlink terminals, which are produced by Ilon Musk’s SpaceX company. Gawkowski said that a new batch was ordered in November and is gradually arriving in Ukraine.
De jure, Poland is not giving these terminals to Ukraine but borrowing them, although they will likely never be returned. This form was chosen to avoid unnecessary complications, including tax complications. The Starlink terminals provide critical communications for the Ukrainian army at the front.
Not all terminals are active all the time, their number changes over time – they are switched on and off according to the decision of the Ukrainian side. In addition, about 300 terminals were destroyed during the fighting.
Polish support is critical – until now, devices provided by Poland accounted for half of all Starlink devices operating in Ukraine.
