Following a working visit to the Netherlands, Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced the implementation of a new support package worth 500 million euros. These funds will be directed towards the Procurement Under Responsibility of Lead (PURL) mechanism and the supply of unmanned aerial vehicles for the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
Mr. Fedorov held a series of official meetings with representatives of the Dutch government, including the Minister of Defense, Prime Minister Rob Jetten, as well as with members of parliament, the defense industry, and the research organization TNO. During the visit, he toured the production facilities of Destinus, which manufactures Ruta rockets for the Ukrainian military.
The Ukrainian Defense Minister emphasized that the Netherlands remains a key defense partner, providing not only substantial assistance but also high-quality support. He cited the “Drone Line” project, funded by the Netherlands, as an effective example of international cooperation, attributing around 25% of battlefield target eliminations to this mechanism.
Additionally, Fedorov discussed allocating 250 million euros to the PURL mechanism, which is critical to enhancing Ukraine’s air defense capabilities and ensuring the operational capabilities of Ukrainian troops. He noted that all PAC-3 missiles for Patriot systems, funded by the Netherlands under this mechanism, have already been delivered to Ukraine. The Minister also highlighted the Netherlands’ active role in the Aviation Coalition and support for the F-16 program.
Another 250 million euros are planned to invest in additional drones to support defensive operations. The Minister emphasized the systematic destruction of adversarial logistics objectives, including supply depots, routes, and air defense assets.
Fedorov announced the initiation of production of Ukrainian drone systems in the Netherlands as part of the “Build with Ukraine” program, which includes the development of mid- and deep-strike solutions financed by the Dutch Ministry of Defense. During the first phase, all production capacity will be geared towards meeting Ukraine’s needs.
Furthermore, the parties signed a cooperation agreement in the field of defense innovation and interaction among defense enterprises. The Minister underlined that Ukrainian technologies and combat experience facilitate partners’ quicker adaptation to contemporary challenges, and allied support enables scaling of proven effective solutions.
Additionally, it was reported that Japan contributed $14.658 million to NATO’s PURL initiative, aimed at procuring American weapons for Ukraine.
