The commission rejected Rico Verhoeven’s protest against his early defeat by Oleksandr Usyk in the heavyweight championship fight. The Dutchman reported this on Instagram.
The Usyk-Verhoeven fight took place on May 23 in Giza (Egypt). It ended with the Ukrainian winning by technical knockout in the 11th round. After the fight, Verhoeven complained that the referee stopped the fight too early – and filed an official protest against the result.
According to Verhoeven, the commission considering the appeal confirmed that the gong for the end of the 11th round had already sounded in the ring when the referee counted a technical knockout in favor of Usyk, and Verhoeven showed no signs of disorientation. Despite this, the result remains unchanged – an early victory for the Ukrainian.
