The American toy company Mattel has released the world’s first version of a blind Barbie doll.
The Guardian writes about it.
The doll was developed in cooperation with the American Foundation for the Visually Impaired.
It comes with a white and red cane. The eyes of this Barbie are directed slightly upward and outward to “accurately show the look” that people with visual impairments sometimes have.
The doll’s clothes have a lot of tactile elements and an elastic band to make them easier to put on. And the inscription “Barbie” on the package was made in Braille so that blind people could read it.
