Government approves agreement between Ukraine and the US on minerals

Ukraine to be represented at the US Independence Day celebration in Washington, DC

On February 26, the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers supported the signing of a minerals agreement between Ukraine and the United States.

This was announced by Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.

The agreement contains six key provisions.

  • Ukraine and the United States are creating a Reconstruction Investment Fund. This fund will be a joint property managed by the governments of both countries.
  • Ukraine’s subsoil and resources remain Ukrainian, not transferred to the United States or anyone else.
  • Ukraine will contribute 50% of future revenues from its mineral resources to the Fund.
  • The United States will contribute to the Fund with cash, financial instruments, and other assets critical to Ukraine’s reconstruction.
  • The money collected by the Fund will be invested exclusively in Ukraine’s reconstruction projects. In fact, it is a Fund for future generations of Ukrainians.
  • Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said the agreement takes into account Ukraine’s commitments within the European integration process. That is, there are no contradictions with Ukraine’s European integration commitments.

“So, after signing the agreement, Ukraine will receive a double benefit: we attract American investments and technologies to rebuild the country and accumulate resources to implement strategic projects for the well-being of every Ukrainian,” Shmyhal said.
