On February 25, on the 155th anniversary of Lesya Ukrainka’s birth, a historic event took place. In Hungary, in the city of Godmezevaszárhely, the first monument to the outstanding Ukrainian poet was erected and unveiled.
This monument became the tenth outside of Ukraine, not counting commemorative plaques.

The sculptural composition was made by Transcarpathian masters, and the bronze bust itself was cast in Uzhhorod. The pedestal is made of volcanic tuff – a stone typical of the region where the poetess grew up.
All work was financed by Ukrainian patrons.
