The Vatican has unveiled a new stamp honoring Ukrainian Greek Catholics. The design depicts a cathedral in Kyiv during a power outage, an unusually poignant reference to the daily struggles of Ukrainians during wartime.
While the Vatican Postal Service often issues stamps honoring Catholic holidays or national churches, it usually avoids any political references in its designs, preferring depictions of religious figures such as local saints.
The new stamp depicts Kyiv’s Resurrection Cathedral, darkened by a power outage but backlit by the orange glow of the evening sky.

The Vatican stamp was issued to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the restoration of the Kyiv Eparchy of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church after the collapse of the Soviet Union, as well as the 12th anniversary of the cathedral’s construction.
The new stamp costs €1.35 – the cost of delivering a regular-sized letter to destinations across Europe.
