On Tuesday, May 13, when the 78th Cannes Film Festival opens, a special “Day of Ukraine” will occur. During this event, the audience will be shown three documentaries dedicated to the war. The organizers announced the special event at the Palais des Festivals in a press release.
The French side emphasized that this event would serve as a reminder of the artists’ obligation to tell the story of this war, which was “in the heart of Europe, which has been affecting the Ukrainian people and the world for three years now.”
Thus, three films will be screened at the Palace of Festivals: Zelensky by Yves Jolan, Lisa Vapne and Ariane Shemen, 2000 meters to Andriivka by Mstislav Chernov, who was awarded the prize for the best director at the Sundance Film Festival, and Notre Guerre (Our War) by Bernard-Henri Levy and Marc Roussel.
Bernard-Henri Levy and his co-director filmed in the Pokrovske and Sumy sectors from February to April 2025. In addition to the fighting, the film shows the everyday life of civilians under terrorist shelling on the eve of possible negotiations. In the film, the director and the soldiers in the bunker watch President Zelenskyy’s conversation with Trump.
