On June 27, 2024, the first round of election debates between Joe Biden and Donald Trump occurred in the United States. The debate lasted 90 minutes in a CNN studio in Atlanta. It was an early debate, as Biden and Trump have not yet become the official candidates of their respective parties. Moderators Jake Tapper and Dana Bash strictly controlled the discussion, forbidding the participants from interrupting each other and having the ability to stop them at any time.
After the debate, American social media agreed that Joe Biden was too old to run for president. Even his traditional Democratic supporters believe that the party should find another candidate. However, this does not mean that Trump looked better. Although he looked more confident, he failed to answer key questions.
Biden’s main problem was his age. He looked tired, spoke quietly, often forgot his thoughts, and could not complete sentences. His arguments were confusing and difficult for the audience to understand.
Although he looked more confident, Trump also failed to give clear answers to important questions, avoided them, and wasted time on empty statements. He was distracted by questions about the storming of the Capitol, accused Biden of taking bribes from China, and made baseless accusations.
On Ukraine, Trump argued that the war would not have started if he had been president and blamed Biden for the weakness that prompted Putin’s attack. Biden emphasized the need to support Ukraine to prevent further Russian aggression against other countries. Trump, however, suggested that Ukraine had already lost the war because of Biden’s mistakes.
The debate showed that both candidates have weaknesses, but the main topic was Biden’s age and his ability to effectively fulfill the duties of the presidency.
