The University of Barcelona hosted a presentation of a giant figure of Lesya Ukrainka as a sign of friendship, mutual understanding, and cultural exchange between Ukraine and Spain, particularly Catalonia.
The project to create the figure was made possible by the cooperation of the Ukrainian community in Catalonia with the local community, as well as the support of the Consulate General of Ukraine in Barcelona, the Department of Equality and Feminism of the Generalitat of Catalonia, and the city hall.
During the doll’s unveiling, Professor of the University of Barcelona M. Cabal familiarized the guests with Lesya Ukrainka’s life and work, emphasizing her contribution to the development of European culture and the struggle for human rights.

Within the framework of inter-university cooperation, the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, on the initiative of its Vice-Rector, K.Smyrnova, presented the University of Barcelona with a selection of Lesya Ukrainka’s works. The issue of translating the writer’s key works into Spanish and Catalan is being worked on.

The central emotional chord of the event was a theatrical performance based on “The Forest Song” prepared by students of the Ukrainian Saturday School in Barcelona Nove Djerelo.
