Ukrainian athlete Yaroslava Maguchikh, who won a gold medal in the high jump at the Paris Olympics, will compete for the world’s best athlete in 2024. The well-known Ukrainian was named one of the five finalists by World Athletics.
Five athletes are competing for the World Athletics Best Athlete of 2024 award: Valerie Allman (USA), discus throw; Tara Davis-Woodhall (USA), long jump; Nina Kennedy (Australia), pole vault; and Thiam Nafissatou (Belgium), heptathlon. All of them are Olympic champions in Paris.
This is the third nomination for the award by the International Federation of Athletics. She also competed for the prestigious award in previous years.
Earlier, Yaroslava was one of three contenders for the European Athlete of the Year.
