UN calls for a ceasefire for the Winter Olympics

The International Olympic Committee has determined where the Winter Olympics will be held in 2030 and 2034

The United Nations, together with the organizers of the Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina, has called for a seven-week ceasefire in all global conflicts.

The UN General Assembly has endorsed the initiative.

“We want to send a message that the Olympic Truce, the sacred Olympic Truce, must be respected. In practice, this is not always possible. But this message reaches every corner of the globe: wherever possible, we must strive to create at least a small space for peace,” said Konstantinos Filis, director of the International Olympic Truce Center in Athens.

The proposed truce covers the Winter Olympics from February 6 to 22 and the Paralympics from March 6 to 15, and also includes an additional week before and after each event.
