Ukrainian director Andriy Priymachenko in an American court defended the copyright to his work, which was used without permission by the American media company HBO in the production of the miniseries “Chernobyl”.
“The deal with HBO has been signed. As a result of the trial in the District Court for the Southern District of New York, the parties came to an agreement. This is a significant precedent when it was possible to defend the copyright of a Ukrainian in a US court in a case with one of the largest American (and world) media companies,” the report says.
Priymachenko noted that”the details of the transaction cannot be disclosed, according to the terms of the contract.” From the very beginning of this case, more than six years ago, his goal was to restore justice.
According to him, when he took up this case in 2019, he had no idea how long and complicated this process would be. Two years of the COVID-19 pandemic and more than three years of a full-scale Russian invasion have made the matter even more difficult.
