European financial capitals have once again topped the global cost-of-living ranking. According to the Numbeo platform, the top spots on the list of the most expensive cities to live in are consistently occupied by Swiss megacities, led by Zurich, while Ukrainian towns are among the most affordable in Europe, occupying the lower ranks of the global ranking of 479 cities.
The high positions of Swiss cities in the ranking are explained by the high cost of real estate and the general level of prices. For example, the average rent for a one-room apartment in Switzerland exceeds UAH 80,000 per month, while the average income exceeds UAH 300,000.
In the global ranking, Ukrainian cities took places at the bottom of the list. In particular, Kyiv was in 412th place, Odesa in 429th, and Lviv in 430th place.
According to Numbeo, the average rent for a one-room apartment in Ukraine is about 10,000 hryvnias per month. This allows Ukrainian cities to remain among the cheapest to live in Europe, alongside cities in Kosovo and Moldova.
At the same time, Kharkiv ranks last in the European housing cost ranking, underscoring the affordability of Ukrainian cities compared to most European countries.
