Ukraine’s deaf men’s and women’s under-21 basketball teams won the world championships. Both Ukrainian teams took first place and received gold medals at the competitions in the Polish city of Lublin. This was reported by the National Paralympic Committee.
Six countries competed for the championship among the men’s teams, and five among the women’s. Ukrainian boys and girls won all their matches.
The women’s team defeated rivals from Australia, Poland, Kenya and the United States of America in the group stage. In the final match, Ukrainian basketball players again defeated the Americans.
The men’s team began the tournament with a victory over Argentina, then defeated the Polish team. In the quarterfinals, the Ukrainian boys eliminated the Kenyan team. In the semifinals, they defeated the Poles for the second time. In the final, the boys defeated the United States of America.
