Over 5.7 Million Ukrainians Leave Their Country Due to War – UN Report

Last year, Ukraine was among the four countries most closely followed in the world

According to data from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, over 5.7 million Ukrainians are residing outside Ukraine due to the aggression of the Russian Federation. This was reported by Dmytro Lubinets, the Verkhovna Rada’s Commissioner for Human Rights.

Each individual in this statistic represents a personal tragedy — families separated by hundreds of kilometers, daily concerns about safety, and children compelled to grow up without close family support. Nevertheless, Ukrainians are showing remarkable resilience and a strong sense of national identity despite the difficulties.

Lubinets expressed gratitude to countries, communities, and individuals who have provided temporary refuge, employment opportunities, access to education, and social support for displaced Ukrainians, helping to restore their sense of security and dignity.

Notably, Ukraine ranks among the highest globally in the number of internally displaced persons. This crisis’s distinction lies in its origin: it is not a natural disaster or an internal conflict but a deliberate military invasion by a neighboring state with imperial ambitions.

In conclusion, Dmytro Lubinets emphasized that Ukrainians will return home, rebuild their country, and restore family bonds, for their home will always be where Ukraine is.

World Refugee Day serves as a reminder that behind every statistic stands an individual awaiting a return to their homeland.
