Ukraine wants to create a register of accounts and individual bank safes. According to the Ministry of Finance’s press service, the State Tax Service will maintain it, and “competent authorities” will be able to access it.
This is provided for by a package of bills approved by the government. The documents were prepared by the Ministry of Finance. This package aims to join the SEPA system of bank euro payments.
According to the presentation of the Ministry of Finance, the register will contain information on:
- bank accounts, securities accounts, e-wallets, etc;
- the owners of such accounts;
- institutions where the accounts are opened.
At the same time, information about the movement and balances of funds on citizens’ accounts and the contents of a safe deposit box will not be transmitted.
Ukraine’s accession to SEPA will allow individuals and businesses to make extremely quick, without additional fees, and under clearly established rules, transfers in euros between the 36 European member states.
