Ukraine has completed the transition to European electricity trading rules. Joint auctions for access to interstate crossings with Moldova were held on the Ukrenergo platform.
The first joint monthly auction for access to interstate cross-border electricity supply for Ukraine and Moldova for March was completed the day before. The auction in this format lasted a week.
In the Ukraine-Moldova direction, the allocated capacity amounted to 463 MW; in the opposite direction, it was 96 MW.
The total available capacity in each direction was distributed among four participants. Eight participants were in the Ukraine-Moldova direction, and nine were in the opposite direction.
The demand for capacity at each monthly auction exceeded the capacity offered for allocation. This determined the marginal auction price for the Ukraine-Moldova direction at €0.05/MW and the Moldova-Ukraine direction at €0.5/MW.
When the demand for capacity does not exceed the offered capacity at the auction, the price cap is zero.
Daily auctions with Moldova are scheduled to start on February 29, with delivery day on March 1.
The introduction of joint auctions fulfills the EU requirements for reforming the Ukrainian electricity market. Ukraine already holds joint daily auctions with other European neighbors: from November 2, 2023, with Romania, from January 16, 2024, with Poland, and from February 22 this year, with Hungary. The first joint auction with Slovakia is scheduled for March 4.
