Ukraine receives a shipment of drugs to treat people with HIV from the United States

Ukraine has received a new batch of antiretroviral drugs from PEPFAR for the continuous treatment of people living with HIV. This was reported by the Center for Public Health on Facebook.

“Ukraine has received a new batch of antiretroviral drugs (ARVs) from PEPFAR (the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief) – TLD, which guarantees people living with HIV continuous treatment,” the report says.

The Center for Public Health reminded that antiretroviral therapy is the only method of treating HIV infection, which is to suppress the reproduction of HIV in the body. Due to this, the level of viral load reaches undetectable when the probability of transmission of the virus from a person living with HIV to a healthy person is practically absent (this is the basis of the formula H=H – undetectable = not transmitted).

According to the Central Public Health Center, as of February 1, 118,444 people living with HIV and taking ART were registered in Ukraine. This allows them to live a full life, minimizes the risk of transmission, and ensures disease control. HIV treatment in Ukraine is provided free of charge. It is safe, has minimal possible side effects, and is convenient for patients – in most cases, it takes one pill once a day.

The PHC emphasizes that every person in Ukraine living with HIV is provided with ART medicines free of charge. To do this, you need to contact any institution that provides HIV diagnosis, prevention, and treatment services.
