Ukraine has received grants totaling $690 million from Japan and Canada under the G7 ERA mechanism through the World Bank’s PEACE in Ukraine program.

This is the first tranche from Japan and the last from Canada, totaling $50 billion and financed under the G7 Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration for Ukraine mechanism.

The funds raised have been transferred to the state budget of Ukraine’s general fund. They will be used for priority expenditures, including pensions and social support programs for the population, as well as housing and communal subsidies.

Grant financing is provided through contributions from international partners:

  • $544 million — contribution from the Government of Japan;
  • $146 million — contribution from Canada;
  • $0.8 million — funds from the PEACE in Ukraine Multi-Donor Trust Fund.

The ERA mechanism began implementation at the end of 2024. Canada’s total contribution under this initiative is 5 billion Canadian dollars (almost $3.6 billion), of which Ukraine received two previous tranches of 2.5 billion and 2.3 billion Canadian dollars in the spring and summer of 2025. Japan’s contribution to the G7 countries’ mechanism for financial support for Ukraine is expected to be 471.9 billion yen (over $3 billion).
