Geraskevych announces fundraising project for families of deceased Ukrainian athletes

Zelenskyy awards Geraskevych with the Order of Freedom

Ukrainian skeletonist Vladyslav Geraskevych announced that he will launch a project to financially support the families of deceased Ukrainian athletes.

Geraskevych was disqualified from the 2026 Olympics for wanting to compete in a “memory helmet” depicting deceased Ukrainian athletes. The skeletonist’s lawyer, Yevhen Pronin, filed a relevant package of documents with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Still, the decision to suspend the athlete was upheld.

After the appeal against the disqualification from the 2026 Olympic Games was rejected, Geraskevych attended the Munich Security Conference, where he gave a short speech and recalled the importance of remembering the deceased athletes. Also, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, met with the skeleton athlete and presented him with the Order of Freedom for his position on honoring the fallen athletes in the “memory helmet”.

Soon after, the skeleton athlete stated that he was beginning work on a project to support the families of the fallen athletes depicted on the helmet, with the further goal of creating an opportunity to help the families of all fallen athletes.
