Ukraine overtakes Russia in cross-border drone attacks for the first time

March 2026 was a landmark moment in the air confrontation. For the first time in four years of the war, Ukraine launched more strike drones at enemy targets in a month than Russia launched at Ukrainian cities. According to an analysis of daily reports, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the shooting down of 7,347 Ukrainian drones. In comparison, the Ukrainian Air Force reported 6,462 Russian drones that attacked the country’s territory.

Although Russia is still capable of conducting massive single attacks – such as on March 24, when almost 1,000 weapons were launched in a day- the general trend indicates an equalization of strategic parity. President Volodymyr Zelensky stressed that Ukraine is relying on its own production.

In addition to striking drones, Ukraine has begun to use interceptor drones and new cruise missiles, including the Flamingo model with a range of over 1,800 miles.

Meanwhile, the air activity is creating tension on NATO’s borders. Alliance aircraft regularly fly over Poland and Romania due to Russian drones that periodically enter the airspace of neighboring countries.
