Ukraine is among the main targets of cyberattacks in the world

In the first half of 2025, Ukraine ranked fifth in the world and third in Europe in terms of the number of cyberattacks, becoming one of the main targets for attackers. Almost every tenth cyberattack in Europe (9.5%) was directed against Ukrainian targets. This is stated in the annual Microsoft Digital Defense Report 2025.

Despite this, experts note Ukraine’s extraordinary resilience and innovation in the field of cybersecurity.

“By accelerating the implementation of cloud technologies, applying AI to protect critical infrastructure and stimulating innovation, the country is building digital resilience that inspires far beyond its borders,” said Renate Strazdina, Microsoft’s CTO in the Nordic cluster.

The report dispels the myth of the total dominance of cyberespionage. The vast majority of attacks are financially motivated.

  • More than 52% of cyberattacks with known motives are related to extortion and ransomware.
  • Only 4% of attacks are cyberespionage.
  • In 80% of cases, the main goal of attackers is data theft.

Microsoft notes that it processes more than 100 trillion security alerts every day and blocks about 4.5 million new malware attack attempts.
