This year, the Berlinale Co-Production Market has selected two Ukrainian film projects to participate in, the Ukrainian State Film Agency reports on its Facebook page.
One of the selected film projects is the tragicomedy Antonivka by director Kateryna Hornostai, produced by Moon Man. This film is a Ukrainian-Latvian co-production, which tells the story of young lovers Aurora and Darko, who survived the war and start a life together. Not having enough money to buy their own house, they move in with the girl’s grandfather, who survived the occupation of the village and a stroke.
The second film selected to participate in the Berlin Co-Production Market is Screaming Girl by Antonio Lukic, produced by ForeFilms.
This is a story about a girl who, after the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, finds herself in Ireland and tries to fulfill her dream of becoming an actress. Unbelievable and fantastic events suddenly happen to the heroine, destroying her life, which she begins to build from the beginning.
The Berlinale Co-Production Market is one of the Berlinale’s industry initiatives, along with the European Film Market, Berlinale Talents, and the World Cinema Fund. Thirty-four film projects from 27 countries were selected to participate in the 21st Berlinale Co-Production Market. Of these, 17 projects were made by women. A total of 318 applications were submitted.
The 21st Berlinale Co-Production Market will occur on February 17-21, 2024, during the Berlin Film Festival and the European Film Market.
