Timothy Snyder opposed the mobilization of Sergei Zhadan

Ukrainian writer Serhiy Zhadan hinted at his decision to mobilize and join the National Guard. Prominent historian and Yale University professor Timothy Snyder commented on his boldness.

Snyder opposed Serhiy Zhadan’s taking up arms. He believed the writer should have received the Nobel Prize.

Timothy Snyder reminded us that the city where Serhiy was born is now under Russian occupation. It is Starobilsk, Luhansk region. Meanwhile, Kharkiv, where Zhadan lives, is constantly shelled by the Russians. The historian criticized the lack of assistance from the United States to Ukraine.

“It saddens me that the lack of US support allows Russia to expand its terror zone and puts him and millions of Ukrainians in danger. Serhiy has been working to support the soldiers since the beginning of the war, and now he has enlisted in the army. He dares to do this while we are unable to provide assistance.”
