The number of Ukrainian refugees in the Czech Republic has increased significantly in recent months. This is reported by the Czech publication Novinky.
According to the country’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, the number of temporary protection permits has more than doubled, reaching a record high.
If until September the authorities issued an average of 1.5 thousand such permits per month, then two months later this figure jumped to 3.1 thousand. The main reason was Kyiv’s permission, which allowed young people aged 18 to 22 to leave the country without hindrance.
In total, 13.5 thousand permits were issued in September. The total number of Ukrainian refugees in the Czech Republic is approaching 400 thousand, which is the highest figure per capita in the EU.
The publication concluded that, despite the change of government, the attitude towards refugees working in the Czech Republic should not change. The EU is already planning to extend the temporary protection status, which is valid until March 2026.
