The number of employed Ukrainian refugees in Norway has increased. As of the end of 2025, 27,000 Ukrainians who arrived in Norway after the war began were working.
According to NRK, over the past year, there has been a “clear increase” in the number of employed Ukrainian refugees compared to 2024.
In total, more than 100 thousand Ukrainians who have registered for protection live in Norway. The publication added that in September 2025, there was a sharp increase in the number of newly arrived Ukrainians, driven in particular by the opening of Ukraine’s borders to 18-22-year-old men.
In the fall of 2025, the Norwegian government announced that it would no longer automatically grant asylum to all Ukrainians. From now on, refugee applications from Western regions will be considered on an individual basis.
In particular, immigration authorities will consider each asylum request from residents of the Lviv, Volyn, Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, and Rivne regions. The fact is that the country’s authorities consider these regions safe.
