The most popular detectives and thrillers bought by Ukrainians in 2024

In 2024, Ukrainians most often preferred literature for children and adolescents. Books on psychology, motivation, and self-development came in second, and contemporary Ukrainian prose took third place.

The information was provided by 26 publishers from different regions of Ukraine (Kyiv, Lviv, Rivne, Kharkiv, Chernivtsi, Ternopil). Contemporary world fiction ranked fourth in the rating. Mystery, fantasy, and science fiction ranked next in popularity. Detectives and thrillers ranked sixth. Ukrainians least buy poetry, graphic novels, business literature, and history books.

Among Ukrainian authors of contemporary Ukrainian prose, books by Illarion Pavliuk were bought the most:

  1. Illarion Pavliuk’s I See You’re Interested in Darkness, White Ashes, and The Dance of the Idiot
  2. Yevhenia Kuznetsova – Ask Miechka, The Ladder;
  3. Irene Rozdobudko – “Incredible. Ode to Joy”,” Paradise Apples. A Collection”.

At the same time, among the most popular Ukrainian authors of children’s literature are:

  1. Yulia Olefir – “Fairy Forest. Adventures of the mischievous raccoons”, ‘Christmas Mood of the mischievous raccoons,’ ‘Little gnomes, residents of a large supermarket’;
  2. Halyna Vdovychenko – 36 and 6 Cats, 36 and 6 Dogs;
  3. Yulita Ran – “Patron Dog and the Big T” and “Patron Dog and the Sock Monster”;
  4. Svetlana Royse – “The Laughingstock” and “The Keys of Power.

World classics were the best sellers:

  • “Emma” by Jane Austen;

  • Orlando by Virginia Woolf;
  • Stop Your Fiction by Philippe Besson;

The top ten best-selling contemporary world fiction in Ukraine in 2024 is as follows:

  4. “Heroes” by Stephen Fry;
  5. Grown Up Girls by Karina Armlos;
