The main prize of the 82nd Venice International Film Festival, the “Golden Lion”, went to the film “Father, Mother, Sister, Brother” by American director Jim Jarmusch. The film tells the story of three different families and their relationships. This was reported on the film review website.
Director Jarmusch, who wore sunglasses and a burgundy suit to the closing ceremony, recalled his love for Venice during the presentation of the “Golden Lion” and thanked the jury and the audience for responding to “his silent film.” The filmmaker ended his speech by recalling the words of Akira Kurosawa, who accepted the Academy Award for his contribution to cinema: “He said something like that he still doesn’t know how to do it, and I have the same feeling that I’m learning all the time.”
The Silver Lion for Best Director went to Benny Safdie for the film “The Smashing Machine”. The film tells the story of the life of former UFC star Mark Kerr, played by Dwayne Johnson. The film also stars the absolute world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk. He played the role of Ukrainian MMA fighter Igor Vovchanchyn, with whom Kerr fought twice during his sports career.
The drama “The Voice of Hind Rajab,” which tells the story of the real-life murder of a 5-year-old Palestinian girl, was awarded the Grand Prix of the Jury.
