The film "20 Days in Mariupol" was recognized by BAFTA as the best documentary

“20 Days in Mariupol” was recognized as the best documentary at the recent BAFTA Film Awards. Director Mstislav Chernov won the prestigious award in the Best Documentary category for his work, which describes the events of the first weeks of the Russian invasion of Mariupol.

In announcing the winner, the British Academy of Television and Film Arts (BAFTA) emphasized the high quality of the film, which reveals the dramatic circumstances of the fighting in the city during the invasion. This film was also nominated for Best Foreign Language Film, although another film, Jonathan Glazer’s Area of Interest, which tells the story of the commandant of Auschwitz, won in this category.

“20 Days in Mariupol” impresses viewers with its deep drama and frank presentation of events. Created by director and photographer Mstyslav Chernov, as well as photographer Yevhen Malolhetka and producer and journalist Vasylisa Stepanenko, the film was recognized not only by the BAFTAs, but also by the Pulitzer Prize for Journalism for its important contribution to the coverage of Russian aggression and the destruction of Mariupol.
