The 15th Odesa International Film Festival took place in Kyiv on July 12-20. The screenings of world and Ukrainian film premieres took place at the Cinema House, and the opening and closing ceremonies of the festival were held at the Parkovy Exhibition and Convention Center. On the first day of the festival, OIFF in partnership with IQOS impressed the guests with a custom collection of memorable movie posters, and at the closing event, for the first time in Ukraine, they launched Glambot, an artificial intelligence robot photographer, which we know from many red carpet events.
Glambot is a smart camera on a robotic arm (the so-called Cook’s arm) that is programmed to find the perfect angle for the person in the frame and shoot a short, spectacular video. You just stand still, and the glambot spins around you and shoots from different angles. The result is something very cinematic!
Music video director Cole Walliser invented and first tried this technology while shooting music videos in 2016. And then the glambot almost instantly became an indispensable participant in social events. Over the past few years, no large-scale film event has been complete without the Cook’s Hand, including the Oscars, Emmys, Grammys, Met Galas, and Golden Globes. Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Adrien Brody, Selena Gomez, and Matthew McConaughey have been in the glamour box’s lens. Probably most of the Western stars. Cole even has special nominations – glam queen or king.
Opposite the photo zone, there is an exhibition of posters from the collaboration between IQOS and OIFF, inspired by the monuments of Ukrainian film monumentalism. Fragments of mosaics, stained-glass windows and bas-reliefs from the walls of old cinemas inspired Ukrainian artist Dima Kotlyar to create unique illustrations to capture part of our cinematic heritage on paper. This is a story we don’t want to forget.
