Due to the war, strokes in Ukraine have become more frequent among young people.
Ukrainian Health Minister Viktor Lyashko says the war with Russia has damaged 1618 medical facilities, eradicating 214 of them.
Lyashko estimates that restoring Ukraine’s medical infrastructure after the war will cost more than $14 billion over the next ten years.
The easiest way to understand if a person is having a stroke is to use the FAST – Face Arm Speech Test:
F – downcast face: ask the person to smile. Is one side sagging?
A – arm weakness: ask the person to raise both arms. Does one of them go down?
S – speech problems: ask the person to repeat a simple sentence. Are the words slurred?
T – Time to call an ambulance: If a person shows one of these signs, call 103 immediately. Stroke treatment can begin in the ambulance.
If the symptoms disappear in a few minutes, it may have been a transient ischemic attack. Although this condition can pass quickly, TIA, like stroke, requires emergency medical care.
