Ukrainian boxer and world champion Oleksandr Usyk has launched a musical flash mob to support those fighting Russia’s energy terrorism daily. On his Instagram page, Usyk called on Ukrainians to join the creation of the Battle for Light national anthem.
“Let’s create the anthem of the Battle for Light together. A normal one, a Cossack one, so that it could be heard beyond the grove. And I will play the drums,” Usyk wrote.
In less than a day, the announcement of the anthem’s creation received more than 1 million views.
The anthem was based on the sounds of Usyk’s drumming, which complemented the work of Ukrainian air defense, rescuers, and DTEK energy workers. The central motif of the anthem is the Ukrainian folk song.
The flash mob has already been joined by ONUKA vocalist Natalia Zhyzhchenko, who played the flute, Monatik, and Dakh Daughters.
Many Ukrainian artists and bands are expected to participate in the flash mob. The final version of the Battle for the Light anthem will be presented on the eve of Oleksandr Usyk’s rematch with Tyson Fury.
