New York City creates a mural dedicated to Ukrainian Iryna Zarutska, murdered in the US

A mural has appeared in the New York borough of Brooklyn in honor of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska, who was murdered at a light rail station in North Carolina in August 2025, The New York Post reports.

A large image of Iryna Zarutska occupies three floors of a house in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn.

The mural was created by American street artist Ben Keller, known for his memorial projects honoring victims of violent crime.

Businessman Elon Musk funded the creation of the mural, allocating $1 million. IT entrepreneur Johann McCabe also contributed $500,000, along with private donors.

As a reminder, on August 22, Iryna Zarutska, a refugee from Ukraine, was brutally murdered at a light rail station in Charlotte, North Carolina.
