A presentation of the charitable initiative of the family of American diplomat George Kent, aimed at supporting Ukraine, was held at the Ukraine House in Washington.
The event was dedicated to the bike ride, during which former US Ambassador to Estonia George Kent, together with his wife Velida and son Georgy, covered the route from the West to the East Coast of the US in three months, raising funds to help Ukraine, which is resisting the Russian invasion.
During the meeting, George explained how the idea for this trip came about and shared the details of the route’s preparation and the difficulties encountered along the way. According to him, the journey, which began in July of last year, required considerable physical endurance and careful planning. Still, the main goal was to draw American attention to Russia’s war against Ukraine and support the collection of donations.
Velida Kent emphasized that an important element of the initiative was the so-called human dimension – personal meetings and conversations with residents of different states. According to her, these contacts helped explain the true course of the war and form an understanding of why support for Ukraine remains necessary.
George focused on the role of youth in charity campaigns. He spoke about using social networks to spread information about the project and attract a new audience to help fundraise.
