Ireland to allocate 650 thousand euros for the film of Ukrainian director Antonio Lukich

The film by Ukrainian director Antonio Lukich, “Screaming Girl,” will receive 650 thousand euros in production funding from the National Film Agency of Ireland, Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland. This is one of the largest international investments in a Ukrainian-Irish film project in recent years.

The film project was presented by Antonio Lukich and producer Anna Yatsenko at the KVIFF Central Stage as part of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.

“Screaming Girl” is a Ukrainian-Irish absurdist tragicomedy with elements of magical realism. It tells the story of a Ukrainian woman, Sasha, who, after the start of a full-scale invasion, finds herself in Dublin, works as a cleaner, and meets the once-famous Irish actor Barry. One day, a suit with a two-meter spear inexplicably grows onto her body, and the woman has to learn to live with this strange change.

Antonio Lukic worked on the film’s script with Irish screenwriter Ailbhe Keogan. And the casting will be handled by Irish casting director Áine O’Sullivan. The team has not yet announced who will play the lead male role; negotiations with international actors are currently underway.
