Inflation has accelerated in Ukraine

The number of bankrupts in Ukraine is increasing to a record high

In February 2025, consumer inflation in Ukraine accelerated to 0.8% compared to January and reached 13.4% annually. Core inflation was 0.7% for the month and 2.0% since the beginning of the year. This was reported by the State Statistics Service.

The reason for the increase

The acceleration of inflation is due to temporary factors, such as the summer and autumn drought, and structural reasons, such as rising production costs.

Last year’s poor harvest affected prices directly, as in the case of vegetables, and indirectly, through higher prices for raw materials in the food industry and animal feed.

How prices have changed

In February, consumer market prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages rose by 1.2%. Eggs (+3.5%) and sunflower oil (+3.4%) were the most expensive items.

Prices for pasta, fruit, butter, cereals, fish, soft drinks, milk, vegetables, bread, meat, and meat increased by 0.6-1.9%, while sugar fell by 0.4%.

Alcoholic beverages and tobacco products became more expensive by 1.3%, mainly due to higher tobacco prices (+2.0%).

Transportation services went up by 0.6%, driven by higher prices for fuel, oils, and vehicle fares (+1.1%), although railroad tickets fell by 0.9%.

Prices for housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels remained almost unchanged (+0.2% yoy).
