Francisco Gomez is a famous British choreographer of Afro-Colombian origin. In 2008, the show “Everybody Dance!” (an adaptation of the American show «So You Think You Can Dance») was launched in Ukraine. Francisco Gomez was a judge in the first 4 seasons and in the 6th season.
He also opened the Release Dance Complex dance studio in Kyiv. In 2019, he visited Dancing with the Stars, where he was a jury member with Kateryna Kukhar, Grigory Chapkis, and Vlad Yama.
Francisco Gomez called Ukraine his second home after his years in Ukraine. He even has a tattoo in the Ukrainian language, “Kohayu,” on his shoulder. In 2014, he was concerned about Russia’s invasion of Donbas and admitted that he reacted painfully to all the news.
I am not Ukrainian by blood, but I feel like a Ukrainian. I feel at home here; I am treated very well. I love Ukraine, so I take all the bad news about Ukraine very painfully,” the choreographer said.
Francisco Gomez condemned the occupation and emphasized that Crimea is Ukraine: “The land does not become yours just because you think you have the right to put your troops there. I am convinced that the situation with Crimea is a way to distract Russians from much bigger problems.”
On February 24, the choreographer reiterated his position and supported Ukraine. Although he wrote that there seem to be many Russians who love Ukrainians and called for unity and support.
My second home, Ukraine… I cannot believe what is happening to your beautiful country. I am overwhelmed with rage at such unnecessary measures. I can’t imagine why you and your families must go through this. Please be very careful wherever you go and care for each other,” Francisco wrote.
Gomez also supported Kalush Orchestra and congratulated them on winning Eurovision 2022.
“I’m very proud! Ukraine, you did it! Love, love, love, love,” the choreographer marveled.
